Halifax, Nova Scotia – Product managers, product management thought leaders and others who are just passionate about creating great products will gather at the inaugural ProductCamp Atlantic, to be held at the Innovacorp Enterprise Centre on Saturday, October 25th, 2014.
ProductCamp Atlantic is an “UnConference,” where attendees become active participants in co-created learning by presenting, discussing, and sharing their experience with experts, colleagues, and those interested in learning more about managing products. Breakout topics will be participant-selected and led, making them both timely and relevant to those in attendance.
The ProductCamp concept began in Silicon Valley, with the idea spreading to 25 cities around the world over a two year period. “ProductCamp is a tremendous environment for product and marketing managers to get together with peers and experts to develop ideas and solutions that are critical to the success of their respective companies,” said Megann Willson, Partner at Panoptika Inc., a Halifax-based customer strategy consultancy, and one of the organizers of ProductCamp Atlantic. “Participants at ProductCamp Atlantic 2014 will come from companies in a wide range of industries, from software to biotech, financial services to manufacturing, reflecting the diversity of businesses in the Halifax and Atlantic area.”
Industry expert and much sought after speaker Steve Johnson will keynote this year’s day-long event. “We are particularly excited about Steve Johnson joining us to begin the day as our Keynote speaker. He has outstanding knowledge and experience related to product management and has become one of the most provocative speakers at major ProductCamp events in North America” said Willson. “I know his talk will enlighten, inspire and entertain our attendees.”
Steve Johnson is one of the tech industry’s most popular storytellers and a recognized thought-leader on product management, marketing, and sales enablement. Based in Virginia, Steve writes, “I have come to believe that most organizations need a small number of living documents—fewer than 10—to manage their products and services. I believe in minimal process, brief artifacts, and simple templates and worksheets.” Johnson continues, “I’m delighted to talk at this session about the different roles in product management and the critical artifacts necessary to bring successful products to market.”
Proposed sessions will be voted on by the ProductCamp participants, with the most popular sessions being featured on the event schedule. Product management newbies, seasoned product managers, and startups can all benefit from a wide range of sessions. ProductCamp discussions in other cities have included Product Strategy, Opportunity Analysis, User Requirements, Product Development Processes, Product Launch, Marketing, Lifecycle Management, Pricing, and Product Management Careers – often one of the liveliest discussions in a discipline that seems to have a different definition in every organization.
ProductCamp Atlantic attendees will discuss how these topics impact their respective business, and work with peers and experts to add usable, practical product management solutions to their toolkits. Join ProductCamp Atlantic from 8am to 4pm (breakfast and lunch provided) on October 25th, and help build Atlantic Canada’s product management community.
